Reestablished in 2020, Union College’s advocacy chapter of the American Association of University Professors (AAUP) welcomes all faculty members — contingent and tenure-track — as we join together to promote and protect the values of our profession.

Union’s AAUP chapter champions the integrity of the key principles of academic freedom and tenure; promotes the institution of shared faculty governance; and organizes on issues of pay equity, economic security, and budgetary concerns that impact the Union community.

Throughout the COVID-19 crisis, Union’s faculty have worked with commitment to the institution during a time of stress and of personal economic loss. After the implemented retirement pause and salary freezes for the 20/21 academic year, we engage the strength of our collective voice to advocate for the financial security and well-being of all faculty members at Union, especially those not afforded the protections of tenure.

Membership benefits of the AAUP are wide-ranging. In addition to being a part of the Union AAUP chapter’s collective and organizing work, membership also includes access to the national AAUP’s extensive expertise, research, and seminar series, in addition to a range of insurance programs, including a reasonably priced professional liability insurance. Annual dues are calculated on a sliding scale and can be paid in monthly installments. We usually hold at least three chapter meetings per academic term. To join, visit the AAUP website. Membership is confidential to the national organization and Union AAUP chapter’s co-chairs.
